A reporter at the White House on Wednesday listed the closing act of the campaign: 30 rallies, then a final speech at the Reflecting Pool. Any regrets? Trump said no, then explained who was really missing from the ballot: “if I was on the ballot, we would have won.” He said it twice. He wasn’t on the ballot, so there’s nothing to check it against, and he offered no evidence.
The crowds, he said, were “thousands and thousands of people at every rally.” The trouble was the delivery: “you couldn’t transfer that love. There was such love at those rallies. It was incredible.” The love, apparently, was non-transferable. AP called the House and the Senate for Democrats.
This was the same pitch he posted at 10:37pm ET on election night, when he “wasn’t on the Ballot.” A day later the ballot still had the wrong name on it.
Asked whether aides had advised him on the Reflecting Pool speech, he reviewed it himself: “I heard it was a very good speech. Got great reviews.” About 30 seconds later: “That was not a speech.”
