Trump blames ‘Dumocrats’ for the stock drop after bragging about 401(k)s

On Thursday afternoon in the Oval Office, Trump was still selling the boom: “The stock markets hit 91 all-time highs. 401ks are the highest they’ve ever been by far.” By evening, Truth Social had a different product.

At 6:18pm ET: “The Stock Market suffered one of the Worst Days in History based on the results of the Election.” Your 401(k)s “have, therefore, dropped.” And: “Remember, it wasn’t Republicans, it was Dumocrats.” At 7:02pm ET he shortened it: “The Stock Market crashed today because the Dumocrats had a big Tuesday — So sad to see, you only have yourselves to blame!”

AP reported a sharp Wall Street selloff on 5 Nov, with the Dow falling about 1,833 points, or roughly 3.4%. Trump’s posts don’t name an index; they name Democrats. A third post that night recycled “I JUST WASN’T ON THE BALLOT” — already covered in our 4 Nov card — and stays a callback only.
