Three weeks ago, Susie Wiles had “zero chance” of being replaced. On Friday he announced her replacement, starting Monday.

On Oct. 16, asked on the South Lawn whether he was replacing his chief of staff, Trump said “Zero chance,” called the Politico report “a fake story,” and promised: “Susie is here and she’s going to be here for a long time.” A long time, it turns out, is 21 days.

On Friday he announced on Truth Social that Stephen Miller “will become the Chief of Staff starting Monday.” As he left the White House, a reporter reminded him of the “zero chance” line and asked what changed. His answer: “I wanted to make a change.” Wiles had done “a very good job, great job,” he said. “Sometimes in life, you have to make moves.”

That evening in Palm Beach he was asked if he was unhappy with his team because of the election results. He denied the election was the reason and said it was time for a change. Then the old refrain: “I wasn’t on the ballot.” He wished he had been. CBS, citing three sources, reports Wiles’ resignation was tied to the midterm losses. AP has called both the House and the Senate for Democrats.
