On the last night of the midterm campaign, Sean Hannity gave Donald Trump the final word on turnout. Trump used it to ask the country to imagine him.

“Well, when I’m on the ballot, as you know, I’ve won every time, and we get 50 percent more votes than when I’m not on the ballot, so I’m just asking everybody to pretend that I’m on the ballot.” Then: “And in a way, I am.” He listed no tax on tips, on overtime and on Social Security, then: “all the things that we’ve done, everything gets erased.”

As you know, he has not won every time. In 2020 he lost to Joe Biden, 306 electoral votes to 232, per the National Archives. The “50 percent more votes” is his number, offered with no source. It’s not a new bit, either. Last month he asked a Michigan rally “how the hell did I ever win three times?” He won twice.

Trump’s name is on no ballot this year. He said it the night before Election Day, before the polls opened. Imagine that.
