Trump tells Hannity Iran is “not much of a war.” Officials say the U.S. struck Iran that day.

The night before the midterms, Trump phoned Sean Hannity to explain that the war with Iran is barely a war, and that it’s cheap anyway. Both halves had a rough Monday.

He said the U.S. can end it at any time, and that this isn’t a war. Then he went after a “very stupid Congressman” on Fox who, by Trump’s account, said $30 billion had been spent on the war with Iran. Trump’s verdict on $30 billion: “that’s peanuts.” He then wandered off the Iran ledger entirely, saying the money had been made back “many times over” with Venezuela, and that Greenland is worth “$5 trillion with a T.” Those are his numbers, and his math. Neither place is Iran.

The closer: “this is not much of a war, Sean,” because it “hasn’t been shooting for months.” The same Monday, a U.S. official told AP that American forces had carried out “defensive” strikes on Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz, with Iranian state TV reporting explosions on Qeshm Island. Officials told ABC the strikes came after Iran fired at a U.S. aircraft, were not a return to major combat, and were the latest in a run of limited, unpublicized strikes in recent weeks.

So: no shooting for months, apart from the shooting.
