Donald Trump has one number, and he’s using it for everything.
Midway through Friday’s Daytona Beach rally, Trump said he’d thought this one would be his last: “I thought this was it. I thought I could relax.” It has been 28 days in a row, by his count, of “this crap.” “It’s a lot. My voice is about operating at about 49.2 percent.”
Earlier in the same speech, asking the crowd to pretend he’s on Tuesday’s ballot, he said “when I’m on the ballot, 49.2 percent more people come and vote.” That’s his claim, with no source given. By our math, the two 49.2s came about 43 minutes apart.
Then the news: the Kansas and Iowa rallies he dropped on Thursday for tele-rallies are back on for Sunday. His account of the ask: “would it be possible to do a little rally of about 50,000 people each? And I said, does it matter? They said, we just want to make sure that we win.”
