Thursday morning, asked about how he’s doing with young voters, Donald Trump answered with crowds. “I think I’m performing well.” Then: “the rallies are unbelievable.” Then: “I’m doing a rally now in South Carolina,” and “it’s packed.” Nobody, he said, has “ever seen anything like it.”
He also said he’s “at 99 percent favorable” with Republicans. “I should hit 100. I don’t know who the 1 percent is.” The rallies, he said, “are very well attended,” and the South Carolina one has “lines of people going two miles long.”
That afternoon the Washington Post reported that Saturday’s rally in Salina, Kansas, was off, replaced by tele-rallies. NBC News reported hours later that Saturday’s in Dubuque, Iowa, was gone too. NBC counts 25 rallies in the past month. Back at Andrews that evening, Trump said of Kansas that he’d do a tele-rally for Sen. Roger Marshall instead, “because I think he’s doing well.”
Nobody’s ever seen anything like it. Kansas and Iowa won’t either.
