Trump posts a “Wake up America!” cartoon with an “Islam” doormat

Donald Trump spent Halloween afternoon handing out the scariest thing he could find, and it wasn’t candy.

At 3:33pm ET on Saturday, between Ohio and Florida endorsements and get-out-the-vote posts, he posted a cartoon to Truth Social headed “Wake up America!” It shows a row of wrecked and burning doors labelled Norway, England, Sweden and France. At the last door, the one with the American flag, stands a grinning, bearded man in a white skullcap and robe, holding a flaming torch. The doormat under his sandals says “Islam.” It is anti-Muslim imagery, casting a religion as an arsonist at America’s door, and the president chose to post it.

Who drew it isn’t known, and Trump added no words of his own. In the same minute he posted a picture of Winston Churchill telling him, “Donald, you’re doing a Superb Job.” That night, at his Mar-a-Lago party, he was calling Abdul El-Sayed, Michigan’s Democratic Senate nominee, “a jihadist.”

Three days before the midterms, the president’s Halloween scare wasn’t a ghost. It was a religion.
