Trump says he has to stop because he has to figure out ‘who the hell are we negotiating with’ in Iran

In Perry, Georgia on Saturday night, Trump ran through the Iran scoreboard. “You know, Iran had 159 ships. Now they’re all at the bottom of the sea.” They had 268 “beautiful airplanes,” and every one of them, he says, is “scattered all over the runways in little tiny pieces.” Those are his numbers.

Then he got to the people. Level one leaders, gone, and level two, gone, by his telling. And then the foreign policy problem he’d built himself: “I got to stop because I got to figure out who the hell are we negotiating with?”

That’s the man who said on Friday in Fort Myers that if Iran is smart, “they’ll just say, let’s get down to business.” Business with whom, it turns out, is a question for the next level down.

He went straight on to Venezuela, a war he says the US won “in one day.” Iran, by his own count, is taking longer.
