Trump says the US may do ‘another little Epic Fury’ in Iran, a war he told Congress had ‘terminated’

The Iran war has a sequel in development, and the working title is “little.”

Running through his Iran record in Fort Myers on Friday, Trump said “We obliterated Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity with Operation Midnight Hammer,” and “then did the rest with Operation Epic Fury, which it was.” The obliterating is his claim. Then came the teaser: “We may do another little Epic Fury, or they’ll agree. If they’re smart, they’ll just say, let’s get down to business.” He followed it with a forecast: “But, you know, I doubt they’ll do that because perhaps they’re not smart.” Reuters says he didn’t elaborate.

There’s a small continuity problem. On 1 May, as the War Powers 60-day clock ran out, Trump wrote to congressional leaders that “the hostilities that began on February 28, 2026 have terminated.” Reuters now describes that same war as nearing its eight-month mark, and reports that earlier on Friday Trump wondered aloud whether to end it quickly or let it wind down. That’s a lot of options for a war that terminated in May. Now it may also get a smaller second instalment.

Reuters also notes that earlier this month he said there’d be no US attack on Iran before the 3 November elections. So if the little sequel comes, it opens after the votes are counted.
