Donald Trump’s last big speech before the midterms found time for the economy, Iran and the arch. It also found time for lawn care.
Running through his D.C. cleanup at the Lincoln Memorial, he said “we’re replacing all of the grass on all of the parks because, like the human being, grass has a life also. You have to replace grass.” In Florida, he added, it’s “once every 12 years.” That’s his number, and grass doesn’t have a birth certificate.
Then came the thank-you. “We were given a gift of grass from a great company, Scotts,” he said, done “free of charge” and “with love.” The old lawn in front of the White House, he said, was “a very inferior grass.” Now it’s beautiful, and people have commented.
The night before an election, the president of the United States gave a lawn brand a shout-out from the Reflecting Pool. The grass has a life. So, apparently, does the bit.
