Donald Trump has issued a travel advisory, and the State Department wasn’t asked. In Corpus Christi on Tuesday, he was selling his “$5,000 Trump dividend” (“and if you’re married, you get 10,” he said; his promise, his numbers) when he added a condition: “when you spend your money, you have to spend it not in France.”
“It’s a beautiful place,” he allowed, before the warning: “Don’t go to France unless you like revolution. You’re better off going out to see Les Mis.” Then the theatre review: it was “also about the French.” Technically true. The musical builds to Paris’s 1832 June Rebellion, which is a revolution of the wrong vintage, but he wasn’t grading.
He closed the history unit generously: “I think the French are extremely good at revolution, actually.” Then it was on to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and campaign nostalgia.
