Trump’s $5,000 offer comes with a catch: ‘If we lose, you get nothing’

Tuesday night in Greenville, Trump closed with the sales pitch. “If you elect a Republican House and Republican Senate on November 3rd, you’re going to get $5,000. And if we lose, you get nothing.” In case anyone in the back missed it: “You’re going to get nothing. If we lose, you get nothing.”
The “Trump dividend” doesn’t exist yet. PBS News points out that sending checks takes an act of Congress, and puts the cost at about $1.2 trillion. Tax Foundation economist Erica York said it would eat almost all the revenue the new tariffs are projected to raise over a decade.
The best part is the track record. Last November he promised $2,000 tariff dividend checks. PBS reports those never went out. So this year’s offer is last year’s missing check, times two and a half by our math, payable only if you vote the right way.
