Donald Trump has reviewed a capital murder case and found the problem. The judge keeps asking questions.

At 12:33pm ET on Friday he posted that “The judge in the Charlie Kirk case is doing a terrible job!” The case “should be tried within a month, not three years,” and the judge “is desecrating the memory of the Great Charlie Kirk, while taking forever to ask questions that people already know the answer to.” He added: “The whole Country is mocking him and our ‘Legal’ System.”

Some scheduling notes. When he posted, Judge Tony Graf of Utah’s 4th District hadn’t set a trial date, and the hearing to discuss one didn’t start until that afternoon. The “three years” is the defense’s request: trial in the third quarter of 2029, which it says a death-penalty case needs. The prosecutors, who are the ones seeking Tyler Robinson’s execution, proposed 31 January 2028 and said they could be ready by October 2027. Erika Kirk’s lawyers asked for 2027. By our count, nobody in that courtroom asked for a month.

After about three hours, Graf said he wouldn’t “run back into my office and type quickly and kick something out,” set 9 November for his ruling, and said he’s concerned about Robinson’s constitutional rights. Robinson, 23, has pleaded not guilty. In a capital case, the “questions that people already know the answer to” are what the trial is for.
