Trump has spent six years insisting he won an election he lost. On Saturday, he claimed one he wasn’t even in.

Minutes after voting early in Palm Beach, he was asked about Barack Obama and Bill Clinton criticising him on the trail. He answered with his career highlights: “I won in 2016, and I won in 2022, but it didn’t work out that way. It was a rigged election. But I won by millions of votes.”

There was no Trump on the 2022 ballot. That was the midterms. The election he presumably means is 2020, which he lost, and which his own attorney general, Bill Barr, said in December 2020 showed no fraud on a scale that could have changed the result. The “millions of votes” is his claim.

In the same breath, he said 2024 was “too big to rig, even better than 2020 or 2016.” So, by his count: 2020 was rigged, 2020 was a win, and 2022 was also his. Early voting is open in Florida. In his head, so are several elections from the past.
