Donald Trump would like the record to show that he did not marry his sister. “I swear, I swear,” he told the crowd at his Daytona Beach rally on 30 Oct. “I did not marry my sister.”

The denial grew out of another attack on Ilhan Omar. Trump repeated his claim that she married her brother, mocked her “not to my knowledge” answer, and offered some legal advice: “A lawyer will tell you that if you’re going to lie, it’s really good to say that.” Omar called the brother allegation “absurd and offensive” in 2016, the Star Tribune reported, and Newsweek says she has repeatedly denied it. Newsweek also reported the “not to my knowledge” answer was to a question about whether she was related to her ex-husband.

Then he made it about himself. Someone, he said, once asked him early in his political campaign, “Have you ever married your sister?” His answer: “You know what I said? No.” Then a family update: “I have one left, Elizabeth. She’s great, but I have not, I never proposed to them.” Then the part nobody needed: “they’re beautiful, but I was never particularly attracted to either of them.”

Not his deal, he added, and went straight back to demanding Omar resign over what he calls a fake name. The president of the United States, at a rally, unprompted, rating his sisters. Noted.
