Trump brings up the Ilhan Omar search, unprompted, and compares it to Mar-a-Lago

Donald Trump would like you to know that nobody ever mentioned the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago.

Wrapping up an answer in the Oval Office on Friday, Trump brought up, unprompted, the federal search of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington home. People said it was terrible, he noted, and added, offering no evidence, that Ilhan Omar isn’t her real name. “It was terrible that they would attack her,” he said. “Well, they attacked my house and nobody brought that up. They attacked a place called Mar-a-Lago. Nobody brought it up.”

For the people who never brought it up: on 8 August 2022, FBI agents searched Mar-a-Lago under a court-approved warrant and recovered classified records, as AP reported at the time. Omar’s home was searched on 12 October by Homeland Security Investigations under a warrant secured by the Justice Department, which called it part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation, according to CBS. Sources told CBS the probe concerns her childhood immigration paperwork. Omar says she has “done nothing wrong.” The Washington Post reports that the Justice Department wants the warrant kept under seal for now, and that prosecutors say no charging decision has been made.

On the day of the search, per CBS, Trump said he “had nothing to do with” it. Eighteen days later, he’s still bringing it up himself.
