Trump wants New Mexico renamed ‘New America’ and says home values ‘will double’

The man who fixed the Gulf and fixed a Great Lake has found his next real-estate play, and it’s a whole state. “I want to change it to New America, right? The value of their homes will double.”

In Fort Myers he gave the pitch its full Zillow treatment. “I’m trying to change New Mexico,” he said, twice. It’s “a good state that went wayward,” with “very crooked elections,” which is his claim. Exhibit A was a friend who lives there and, he says, keeps getting asked for a passport. “And frankly, and I’m playing with this, you know, this is tricky. It’s called New Mexico, but it’s not Mexico.” The proof of concept is the Gulf of America, where, he says, “the whole shoreline is booming. They’re selling T-shirts.”

He has been posting about this since a September map on Truth Social, and on 19 Oct he wrote that the state “should immediately change its name.” The bad news, one more time: he can rename a body of water for federal maps, but not a state. New Mexico’s constitution reads, as ABC points out, “The name of this state is New Mexico.” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s answer back in September was that the name isn’t “up for debate.”

No appraisal, study or source came with “the value of their homes will double.” He just said it.
