Donald Trump has a firm view on the general the Pentagon just fired over leaks: she is in big trouble. Brett Sylvia is a man.
At Joint Base Andrews on Thursday morning, a reporter asked whether he’d heard that Lt. Gen. Sylvia leaked classified information. Trump: “She’s got problems. She’s going to have big problems.” Then the policy: “we’re very much looking for leakers.” Then the forecast, still in the feminine: “she’s going to have big problems, long-term problems.”
The officer in question is Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, who ran strategy, plans and policy (J-5) on the Joint Staff until Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth fired him. A Pentagon official told the Washington Times he failed three polygraph tests over leaks, and the case has been referred to the Justice Department. No charges have been announced.
So the commander in chief promised “long-term problems” to one of his own three-star generals and got the pronoun wrong while doing it. The leak hunt continues. The name check apparently doesn’t.
