Donald Trump spent a whole rally running against Scott Colom, and then asked how to say his name. Late in Monday’s rally in Corinth, Mississippi, he was promoting Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith: “And very few people have a record like that.” Then he turned to her Democratic opponent. “By contrast,” he said, and named Scott Colom. Then: “How the hell do you say that guy’s name? What a name.”

He had said it before. In the first five minutes of his speech, according to the full transcript, he used Colom’s name four times, including when he called him “a fake, a shameless phony who pretends to be a moderate.” By our math, the name question came about 74 minutes after the first one.

Once the name was out, he went to the attack lines, which are his claims: that Colom is “campaigning to give drug addicts taxpayer funded welfare” and supports “deadly sanctuary cities.” Then he wrapped it up: “So, look, I don’t have to go into him. He’s a disaster.” He’d been going into him since the first five minutes.
