Wind turbines generated 58% of the electricity made in Iowa last year, according to the Iowa Utilities Commission. Donald Trump landed in Iowa on Sunday and told the state what he thinks of them.
Asked why the Pentagon released its holds on wind farms, including one in Iowa: “we’re going to see how it works out. I’m not a believer in wind. I think wind is a very expensive form of energy. We don’t need it.”
He kept going: “I happen to think it’s a very ugly thing when you have these windmills all over the place that in three, four years they end up rusting and rotting.” The fix is the usual: more oil and gas, plus Venezuela, “and actually Greenland, too.” Also: “We have more than any other two countries in the world combined.” His claim.
Moments earlier, on the same tarmac: “I’m in the right place.” On Oct. 28, per a Bloomberg Law headline citing Punchbowl, his own administration was set to approve two Iowa wind projects.
