Donald Trump’s farm policy briefing in Mississippi lasted until he spotted someone in the crowd. At Monday’s rally in Corinth, he was on Canada and dairy: “We don’t like to be ripped off.” They’ve been charging tariffs of “400 percent,” he said, which is his number. Then: “Look, they’re all nodding yes. Stand up, the blond-haired woman.” She was, he added, a “beautiful blond-haired woman.”
Apparently she was a farmer. “You’re a farmer? You don’t look like a farmer to me.” Then the follow-up question: “Do all farmers look like you?” He answered it himself: “I don’t think so.”
Then it was back to the tariff pitch: “But, so you’re a farmer and you know what I’m talking about, 400 percent for dairy products.” And then the martyrdom: “I have to always do the dirty work.” Being the one who calls a farmer beautiful from the podium, presumably, counts.
