Donald Trump has solved crime, and the answer is the clock. “Less crime is committed because you have more light in the evening,” he told Monday’s rally in Corinth, Mississippi. “And criminals don’t commit crimes in the morning. They commit them in the evening.”

He wants an end to the clock changes, and he wants the light late. “Most people are demanding sunlight,” he said. “I happen to like sun in the afternoon. I don’t need it, really, in the morning.” How many people? “I would say 70, 75 percent.” That’s his number. There was a safety case too: “And even churches and municipal governments, they have to hire cranes to go up.” Up what, he didn’t say.

Then it got personal. “I had a big meeting and I was an hour late,” he said, and “I said what do you mean Daylight Saving Time?” His verdict: “Now you wind it back still further. So, it’s a — it’s a stupid thing.”

He says the House “has already passed a bill five times to make Daylight Saving Time permanent,” and he read out a New York Post line about a House vote. He posted the same Post passage on Truth Social at 5:37pm ET; it mentions one House vote, this summer. The clocks go back anyway on Sunday, 1 November. Criminals, by his account, will sleep in.
