On Friday’s Real Time, Bill Maher said of Donald Trump: “He never interrupts. He never gets mad. He listens.” On Sunday night, Trump got the last word. At 8pm ET he posted roughly 1,300 words, by our count, opening with “Let’s talk about this COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER, Bill Maher.”
The dinner review comes in consecutive sentences: “Overall, I thought it was a good meeting. It didn’t last four hours, it lasted two hours, maybe less, and everybody was happy. We have the timestamps. I learned nothing, and felt it was a waste of time.” On the show, Maher had joked that a press secretary’s tenure was shorter than his four-hour dinner with Trump. The president, apparently, has the timestamps.
Along the way: Maher had “a seriously bruised eye and nose area, as though somebody had just beaten him up — But it wasn’t me!” He is, per Trump, “a major POTHEAD,” and the audience laughs because of what Trump calls a “Laughing Machine,” “which is a real term.” Those are his claims. He also says some people credit The Apprentice with building his career, “because I became President (I would have won without it!),” and that he isn’t “building a swimming pool in the White House Briefing Room, and never had any intention of doing so.”
The sign-off: “I never watched your show much, but I will never watch it again...” Earlier in the same post: “When I have watched the show, which isn’t often.” About 1,300 words, then, on a show he doesn’t watch.
