Trump was asked who ordered Ukraine’s Starlink access restricted. He gave the full non-denial: “I have no idea. But I wouldn’t tell you if I did know. Why would I tell you?” The reporter was from CNN. “Why would I tell CNN? Although they did do some nice polls on me.”
Then he was asked if he’d told Elon Musk to stop messing with Ukraine’s connection. He said he had “not spoken” to him: “I might have to, but I have not.” He’d “heard it was fixed,” he added.
A day earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had called Musk and asked him to lift the restrictions. Asked about that on Thursday, Trump said, per Reuters: “I don’t want to comment on it, whether I called or whether somebody else called, doesn’t make any difference, I guess. The bottom line — he put it back.” So on Thursday he wouldn’t say, on Friday he hadn’t spoken to him, and either way it’s fixed.
Kyiv says otherwise. On Friday a Zelensky adviser said Ukraine had “not observed any lifting of restrictions on Starlink.” Later in the same gaggle, told Zelensky says it still isn’t working: “I haven’t heard that, but I’ll look at it.”
