Donald Trump is worried he’ll be quoted without his ending sentences, so here they are.
In Lubbock, he set it up himself. “I don’t like saying it,” he said, citing the Middle East, but Texas has “made more money than you have ever made.” Why? What took place “seven months ago? The war.” He knew how that sounded: “Now, when I say it,” he said, they call it “so terrible.” So he said it again: “Our country is making a fortune while people have to pay more at the pump.”
Then came the ending sentence: “Paying more at the pump is going to come down really fast, okay?” And a complaint that nobody prints it: “they won’t put in my little ending sentences. But we are making an absolute fortune, more than we ever have.” Also: “Texas has never, ever done numbers like this.”
There, the ending sentence is in. The fortune, by his account, is already here. The cheaper pump is a promise. It’s his second oil-fortune brag in four days, after “a freaking fortune” in Perry on Saturday. In between, in Port Huron, your gas bill was “a small price to pay.”
