TWO CORINTHIANS WALK INTO A BAR

Trump knows more about Christianity ‘Than Anybody,’ says the ‘Two Corinthians’ guy

Move over, theologians. The man has spoken.

Monday night in Park City, Kansas, Donald Trump told the crowd he has “the all-time, in history, Christian vote,” and then went a step further: “I know more, I know more than anybody.” About Christianity. More than anybody. Including, presumably, the guy it’s named after.

Then he told the pastor story. A “certain pastor from a place in Dallas, Texas” supposedly said Trump “might not read the Bible as much as us, he might not know every passage,” but would “lead us to a period of time in Christianity that nobody else can do.” Trump’s review: “And he turned out to be right.” Hold on. He opened with “I know more than anybody,” then quoted a pastor saying he doesn’t know every passage. Two claims, under a minute apart.

The pastor is Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Dallas. He told HuffPost Trump was paraphrasing a 2015 Fox interview, and what he actually remembers saying is that Trump would be “the most faith-friendly president in history.” Not quite a new era of Christianity. That’s a Yelp review.

The vault has the receipt. In January 2016, at Liberty University, candidate Trump quoted “Two Corinthians” to a room full of evangelicals who’d spent their whole lives saying “Second Corinthians.” The room laughed. Ten years later he knows more than anybody. Growth.
