The president of the United States took the Fort Myers stage to sell a governor and a senator, and ended up delivering the most honest sentence of his second term: “I get sued for everything... I don’t give a shit about it.”

The setup was the new White House helipad. “It is a beauty, it’s beautiful, everyone saw it. They were going to sue us, because I get sued for everything. If I walk outside, somebody sues me for something.” He then did a voice for his softer friends, the ones who “have almost a nervous breakdown” when they get sued, before landing the plane: “But I have hundreds and hundreds of -- I don’t give a shit about it, you know.” Dan Diamond reports it got a standing ovation.

He’d like you to know the building is therapy. “It is almost like a release,” he said, and a few minutes later he answered the critics who ask why he spends so much time fixing up the White House: “it hasn’t been fixed up since 1792.” In 1792 they were laying the cornerstone. Harry Truman gutted the place down to its outer walls between 1948 and 1952.

The lawsuits he doesn’t care about include the one over the ballroom. The Supreme Court let construction continue 5–4 in August, and Politico reported that Chief Justice John Roberts, dissenting, called the project “likely unlawful.” Judges in the cases still going are, per AP, bristling.
