Day two of the Amy Acton mom ad, and Trump has found the real villain. It’s the reporter.
On the South Lawn Friday, a reporter laid out the part the ad skips: Acton’s stepfather was indicted for raping her, and that’s why she and her mother haven’t spoken in decades. Did that change his mind? “No, no. It’s a mother speaking badly against Amy Acton.” Told the mother stood by the husband: “You don’t know that. You don’t know anything.” And then, for anyone still asking: “The press is embarrassing themselves.”
A few minutes later, an NBC reporter asked whether the sexual abuse allegations mean nothing to him. “Wait, wait, wait, wait. Slow down. Who you with?” NBC. “Quiet.” Then: “You’re a horrible little reporter, aren’t you?” Then the closing argument: “If my mother said bad things about me, do you think the Democrats would put it up? I think so. But my mother thought I was wonderful. Thank you, mom.”
He wrapped it up: “This has nothing to do with a stepfather or anything else... To me, that’s something that’s very much fair game.” Sadly, the allegations don’t go away because he says “quiet.” Police and court records, as AP and FactCheck.org have reported, back Acton’s account.
